Tupuri community call on preservation of identity

The feast of coq which took place over the weekend in Douala was an interpellation to the preservation of identity.

"The Tupuri Should know who they are. There should be no shame to be identified as a Tupuri. They should identify themselves anywhere need arises. I say this because very often, we have behaviours that do not honour this culture. I ask parents to tell their children who they are, to bring these children to love their culture”.

Beyond the celebration of Feo Kague December 13, 2014 for the 17th time in Douala, Lazare Kolyang, president of the local organizing Committee of the feast of coq, challenged the Tupuri community on the preservation of identity.

Do not hesitate in speaking to them in their language, with very colourful expressions sometimes.

Safeguarding of identity does not mean isolationism or communitarianism, Lazare Kolyang said: "we have the dream to see Tupuri sons and daughters walk proudly alongside the other tribes in Africa in miniature".

Beside all questions and reflections, there were joyous festivities with the primary aim of reuniting to celebrate together the new year. A secular party in the rhythm of age-old dances: Gourna, Waiwa and others like Lele, Sili, Darius.
