DO bans transportation of passengers by tricycles

The Divisional Officer, DO just reiterate that this mode of transport is strictly for goods.

On Tuesday, the DO of Wouri, Naseri Paul Bea, has in a note, made a call to order the users of the highway that use the tricycle for the transportation of people. This machine is misused, it is not a transport vehicle for human beings but only for light goods, said the administrative authority. There must be a return to orthodoxy, he told the Cameroon Tribune.

Following instructions from the same direction, given there some time by the authorities, much to Douala, specifically traders have started to use the tricycle as a means of transport from one point of the city to another. In the streets of Akwa, one meets tricycles carrying people and goods. Usually early in the morning to the evening peak hours.

It is also used for depositing food products in different markets of the city of Douala. O. Mathieu, owner of a tricycle, said: "Since the first time the DO warned, I no longer carry people, but only the goods here in Mboppi market."

As recalled by the land chief, tricycle is causing many serious accidents. In addition, on the eve of the holiday season, traffic becomes denser, taxis and motorcycles are very busy, and people may be tempted to use these three-wheeled motorcycle...

To avoid ending up with victims of tricycle accidents, call to order was imperative. In the same note, it is stated that all offenders will have their vehicles seized and impounded.

In terms of security during the Christmas and New Year, more drastic measures - as in previous years - will be taken. This is to protect large gathering places and sensitive corners (churches, markets ...). The east and west entrances will also be subject to special security. "There is no question that we are surprised by something bad given the current situation that you know," said Naseri Paul Bea.
