54 Water Technicians Graduate in South West

The Rural Equipment and Development Specialisation Training School, REDSTS, Kumba, has graduated its first batch of Senior Technicians of Infrastructure, Rural Equipment and Water Resource Management.

The graduation ceremony took place recently under the patronage of the Meme SDO, represented by the 2nd Assistant Divisional Officer, Yongkuma Nelson Gamsi, and was presided at by the South West Regional Delegate for Agriculture and Rural Development, Fowang Lawrence.

The 54 graduates are holders of Higher National Diplomas and can be employed in diverse professional sectors of activities linked with water management, civil engineering, the management of Agriculture hydraulics and environment. During the ceremony, Yongkuma Nelson Gamsi told the graduates that their diplomas is not an end in itself and can be put in value only when the knowledge they have acquired are actually put into use in the near future for their own happiness.

On her part, the Director of the School, Ambani Francine, observed that the graduates are professionals in their various fields of specialisation and that they have undergone vigorous training to meet the challenges of modern times. She called on them to be real ambassadors of the institution. The Director while hailing the government for her continuous support of the school opined that the problems of teachers remain serious.

She hinted that it is costly bringing teachers out of the division like in Buea, Douala and Yaounde to impart knowledge to students. She called on government to recruit more specialised teachers for the school. It should be noted that this school is in partnership with the International Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering, 2iE of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. Some meritorious students also received awards for excellence.
