Faro Bridge collapses; inhabitants stranded

Inhabitants in the Faro area have been stranded since Tuesday morning, following the collapse of the main bridge being the junction between this unit and the rest of the region.

The bridge was destroyed as a result of heavy rains recorded for a few days in the area. The torrent caused by the flooded waters dragged trees, which clashed violently with the central pillars supporting the bridge.

Part of the 44m long bridge was swept away by raging waters, early that Tuesday morning. Since then, nothing enters or leaves Faro.

Already landlocked by its geographical position, the Department has to face the repercussions of this situation, the first been economic, as many agricultural products which represent the first local activity can no longer be sent to the rest of the region, while many other necessity goods needed by the people, from Garoua for the most part, cannot enter the area.

To prepare for the most pressing, the regional services of the Ministry of public works have been deployed to the site, to examine the feasibility of providing a deviation on the Ford of the bed of this stream.

The Btp cruise company already present at the site for the tarring of the Pana - Poli axis has been requested for this purpose. However, one or two days will be required for this deviation to go operational.
