Youths empowered on career advancement

Some young jobseekers from Bui Division have deepened their knowledge in job searching, career advancement, entrepreneurship and effective networking.

This is the outcome of a one-day symposium on professional orientation and career advancement that took place in Yaounde on Saturday May 23, 2015 on the theme “Learn Network Grow”. Organised by Nkumbiwa Development Forum the symposium brought together youths from the four council areas of Bui Division. These are Nkum-Kumbo-Mbiame-Dzekwa.

Speaking at the opening, the founder of Nkumbiwa, Bertha Yenwo said the forum is to inspire the youths on how to better their lives, families and their communities. The coordinator of Nkumbiwa, Clement Yuyun discussed on the topic “Professional orientation and career advancement”.

He talked on how the youths can move from a passive approach to job search for a more proactive strategy. Secondly for those who are already working he demonstrated how to grow in their career by widening their thinking horizons and being more productive.

The second speaker, Fon Amos of Dream African talked on an entrepreneurial ecosystem for Cameroon’s emergence. He stressed on major aspects such as what is entrepreneurship, what it means to develop an entrepreneurial ecosystem, providing training, monitoring, financing and providing technical support.

Entrepreneurship he said if properly developed can significantly reduce youth unemployment. The third speaker Mrs. Gladys Viban also threw light on the need for effective networking, among youths.

Nkumbiwa Development Forum with Headquarters in Kumbo in the North West Region was created in 2012. It aims at fostering the personal and professional growth of the members and outreaching the community for sustaining development.

Nkumbiwa is made up of development volunteers from four council areas of Bui division. Currently, Nkumbiwa is operational in two zones: Kumbo (zone 1) and Yaounde (zone 2) with the perspective of extending to the whole national territory. Each zone of Nkumbiwa is made up of the following seven fora: Youth Forum, business Forum, Green Forum, Elders Forum, women’s Forum, Cultural Forum and Professional Forum.
