Yaoundé: Daughter exhumes mother’s body

A woman paid some men to exhume the body of her mother at Awae, a neighborhood in Yaoundé on August 17.

The aim was to give her a second burial, but this time in the cemetery at Mvolyé in Yaoundé.

Around nine o'clock, the men came to remove the body and this alerted the entire neighborhood. These men asked the neighbours not to go out with their children because of toxic products they have put into the ground to prevent the house from smelling bad.

Despite the protests from family members of the deceased, they left with the remains of the lady towards Mvolyé.

For the record, the mother died two years ago, when she was nearly seventy years. She left her daughters a great concession. Her France based eldest daughter (family head) decided to sell the concession of her mother. She managed to sell the house to a friend in Cameroon of French nationality for FCFA 58 million.

The woman demanded that she did not want a tomb in her home. The daughter who had already sold the house was unable to recover the amount paid so she decided to dig up the body of her mother and later buried her in the cemetery at Mvolyé.
