Wimbum populace reiterate stance against Boko Haram

The people of Wimbum, land in Donga Mantung Division of the Northwest Region, resident in Yaounde have again declared their stance against the activities of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, that has brought untold hardship into the Northern Regions of Cameroon.

The determination of the Wimbum people to all stand as one against the evil acts of the terrorist group was re-echoed by the Yaounde Branch President of one of the clans of the Wimbumland, ‘Njep Tang’, Kenneth Nfor, during their pioneer cultural day celebration recently. The event took place at the Wimbum Cultural and Development Association, WICUDA, complex in Oyo-Mabang, Yaounde.

In a rather subtle declaration while addressing the population, Nfor said “in a loud voice, we all say no to Boko Haram insurgence in the North of our country.”

While paying tribute to some fallen committed members, he described the cultural day as historic because it was the very first ever organised by Njep Tang in Yaounde which the departed members who have been working towards it could not have the opportunity to live it.

Nfor said, apart from showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Njep Tang through traditional dances, decent dressing modes and various types of delicacies, the occasion was also an opportunity to raise funds in anticipation of the national Njep Tang conclave billed for Yaounde in June 2015.

He recognised the Presidents of Njep Ya’a and Njep Wat, hailing them for their collaboration and above all the executive members of WICUDA for opening up and authorising the use of the resources of the cultural complex during the event.

“Let us keep the spirit we demonstrated and show the world that we belong to a one and indivisible clan, community, ethnic group and country Cameroon,” Nfor told the population.

On her part, the President of the women’s wing of the group, Mirabel Ngangeh, called on the men to encourage their wives to attend the meeting regularly.

She remarked that she has been in that position for long and needed to be replaced. It was also an occasion for her to remind the members to register and pay their contributions noting that it is some sort of social security cover.

The President of the Njep Ya’a meeting in Yaounde, Ta Tamfu Given Njini Ngi, said the activity organised by one of the clans is an activity for all the Wimbum people.

He, however, observed that the large crowd of Njep Tang members present at the cultural day is not seen during WICUDA meetings, which is the umbrella association for all.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of WICUDA Yaounde, Willsman Ngaffison, hailed the innovative idea of Njep Tang as he remarked that culture is the identity that traces the origin of a people. He said WICUDA has a very large following and expressed the wish to see this reflected in the mobilisation for development projects and during cultural manifestations. He said if this is done, the young ones will be imbibed with such values from the tender age.

He reminded members of the group who are yet to contribute to the WICUDA cultural centre expansion project to do so promptly in order to write their names in the history book of the association.

The cultural jamboree was also marked by the display and presentation of the Wimbum diets and cultural utensils by Dr. Gratiana Ndamnsah, Lecturer in the University of Yaounde I.

Njep Tang clan is made up of Taku, Tabenken, Ntundip, Talla, Binka, Ngarum, Mabih, Sinna, Kup and Bongom villages.
