Western Region suffers blackout for two days

Blackout Blackout

The Western Region of Cameroon has been without electricity for two days after its brief return, which saw some jubilation in some quarters in Bafoussam.

The supply of electricity was suddenly interrupted shortly before noon on Saturday, August 1. Some people first believed that it was just one of those temporary cuts to which the company in charge of the production and distribution of the electric imposed on consumers.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. The day ended and people rose to see another day in darkness. After enduring this ordeal for a day, some consumers exploded in anger.

“Eneo is often quick to use some mobile operators to inform us that invoices are available. Why can’t this company use the same channel to tell us what exactly is happening,” inveighed a consumer.

Except that his question remained unanswered until when the provision of electric power resumed at dawn on Sunday August 2. Life went back as normal as if nothing had happened. Yet, the sudden power failure occurred in all seven departments of the Western region apart from a large part of the Department of Haut-Nkam, which depends on the Littoral Region for electricity.

What is happening? The official reason is still a mystery. However, according to some sources, this reported general blackout was caused by a man in the town of Batié who fell. His fall disrupted the flow of power. It resulted cut the high voltage cables carrying electricity to the Western region.

“Even if this version was true, do they need two days to connect cut wires?" asked a consumer who deduced it as disregard of Eneo towards its customers.
