The term, ‘water is life’ has been appreciated by the people of Edea who have been without running water for two weeks.

All day long, it became common to see children, youth and women with containers on their heads or hands traveling long distances in search of drinking water.

The situation has become so critical that some residents even conveyed for many hours to fetch water. This is the case of Simon, who was interviewed on the private television station Canal 2 International; he sets out in search of water from 6 am until early afternoon on board the vehicle filled with large empty drums.

Parti of Tiwa neighborhood, like many others from the town, had to travel several kilometers to Pongo, one of the few surviving sources that still spews drinking water.

The first victims of this unexplained water scarcity are the households. A housewife told Canal 2 International reporter that she exhausted her baby diapers in 24 hours without being able to wash those that were used, due to the lack of water.

“I cannot even do the laundry or dishes. We have not had water for a week and it's very painful. Moreover, water cuts are frequent in Edea and when it comes back, it flows very slowly in addition to being very dirty. It looks like mud,” said the young housewife to Canal 2 International.

The team leader of the television in Cameroon who conducted a tour to the premises of the Cameroon Waters (CDE) in the city, was not allowed time to cross the portal of the CDE Edea agency.

The reason for the tour was to seek explanations for the shortage of water that has hit Cameroonian cities that host the River Sanaga

Meanwhile traders’ revenue is increasing regarding the sale of mineral water or drilling water bags to the people.
