Wandai, a town on the border with Nigeria has regained calmness thanks to the courage of the members of its vigilance Committee in the fight against Boko Haram.

Often called the "red zone" of the Department of Mayo-Tsanaga because of its geographical location and especially the repeated abuses by members of the sect Boko Haram, Wandai has real warriors.

"We no longer feel the presence of Boko-Haram here. We are mobilizing alongside the army with courage and determination. Due to these commitments, we have been able to put a stop to the repeated actions of the Nebula and members of Shekau’s group," indicated Bouba Abdoulkarim, president of the vigilance Committee.

Furthermore, “this is the fruit of a great sacrifice because we practically don't sleep. We prepared ourselves just to prevent incursions. With arrows, machetes and spears, we were able to foil incursions and the actions of the sect. The presence of the defense forces, the mobilization and the dynamism of the members of the vigilance Committee brought the joy of living together among the villagers.

For the time being, the situation has been calm for almost a month. For his part, Manaouda Paul pointed out that “for some time, the populations which fled the village, returned to their homes. Thanks to the involvement of the Tchadian and Cameroon armies, they no longer panic as it was the case previously.

In fact, since the start of the construction of schools, the task has been immense. The members of the vigilance Committee work night and day, in collaboration with the law enforcement detachment present at Mabas and Tourou. "We have blocked all the roads. No one enter or leaves at restricted hours. We ensure the security of our people.

If we encounter suspicious people, we immediately denounce them. Through barriers that we had set, we have been ensuring the systematic control of people and goods for two years,” noted Sawalda, another Member of the vigilance committee which ensures the security of inhabitants on a voluntary basis.
