UY1 signs partnership agreement with PROMHANDICAM

A partnership agreement aimed at ameliorating the academic conditions of visually impaired students at the University of Yaounde 1 has been signed.

The agreement was signed between the University of Yaounde one and PROMHANDICAM-a non-governmental Organization aimed at improving the conditions of people living with disabilities.

The Rector of the University of Yaounde 1 Aurelien Sosso and the representative of the Director-General for PROMHANDICAM Damian K. Tem carried out the signing exercise.

According to this agreement, academic facilities such as transcribed notes, examination questions, catch up sessions, and a hall for transcription, have been put at their disposal.

Their examination questions would also have to be made available one week before the exams.Unlike in the past, they can now make better use of their braille.

According to the Rector of the University of Yaounde 1, the visually impaired are the most affected among students living with disabilities, the reason why they are the primary target in the partnership accord.

The University of Yaounde 1 has a total of 201 students living with disabilities with 25% being the visually impaired.
