Tiko populace rate Mayor's one-year-mandate

The people of Tiko, at least, those we talked to, are of the opinion that Tiko is departing from a history of underdevelopment, administrative nonchalance to a new era of administrative concern from the municipal authorities of Tiko.

They rated the work of Mayor Moukondo Daniel Ngandehigh who is barley one year into his five-year-mandate. They also urged him to do more, arguing that they have been in the cold for too long in terms of development. They spoke to The SUN’s Atia Azohnwi.

So much is being done- EyongPaul

The Tiko Council is doing plenty of work for the town. I appreciate the effort of the mayor and his administration. All what we wanted as per the building of the market, we are seeing it realized. The Tiko market now has a fence with a gate that is going to improve security in the market. We also have lighting in the market, as well as many more stalls that are under construction. We also thank him for taking upon himself to rehabilitate the main road that leads to the market. We are sure that it is going to play positively on our sales. We hope that mayor Moukondo will continue in this light. We thought development in Tiko will never come, but we are now confident that development has come to stay. We had longed for this for long and we pray that mayor Moukondo will never stop providing the much needed development Tiko has not seen for years now.

Moukondo is meeting the needs of the people - Mballa Paul Barine

Tiko has a lot of problems. We have problems of roads, we have problems of the markets, we have problems of discipline in terms of refuse disposal, we have drainage problems and there are socio-economic problems. Tiko is also plagued by insecurity.

We live in a creek city that needs culverts to interlink the quarters. Mayor Moukondo has done a lot in this respect. The roads into the quarters were really bad and the mayor is also handling this perfectly. We have had roads maintenance and culverts constructed. Electricity needs of the people are also being attended to.

The issue of sewage disposal is not perfect but it is being done at an appreciable level. The market was no market before Mayor Moukondo took office. The former mayor was selling spaces here in the market to even those who are victims of the fire incident that razed the market. The former mayor did not heed to our calls to modernise the market.

Mayor Moukondo has met the needs of the people far above 70%. We can say that Tiko is departing from a history of underdevelopment, administrative nonchalance to a new era of administrative concern from the administration.

Revenue options are being multiplied - Nde Sonita

The development we have seen this year is encouraging. We are happy that the mayor has put in all within his powers to ensure that this Motor Park goes operational. When this park fully goes operational, we are sure to raise revenue for the council and also that this place will attract development. This part of town has been cleaned and we hope that this is not going to be the end of the good things that the mayor will do for us. All I can tell him is that he should go ahead. We have been longing for such a level of development. Thank God it has come when we are there to see and enjoy it.

The projects, achievements are glaring - Prudencia

The development is very glaring for us to see. We have seen culverts, new roads, grading of the main road that leads into Tiko Town and also the modernisation drive at the Tiko main Market. We are happy. But like Oliver Twist, we are asking the mayor to do more and that he should not relent in his efforts. We want to beg him to improve on the waste disposal system in the town and to also see how urban disorder and crime can be curbed, particularly in Mutengene.

Tiko can now smile with development - Akumbom Gladys

Tiko has been in the cold for so long in terms of development. We did not even k now that it was the role of the mayor to ensure that we have good roads, culverts, good water supply and that we have a market that we can call a market. I can say that Mayor Moukondo has distinguished himself within the past one year since he came back to manage the council.

The bread sellers in Mutengene now have stalls under construction where they will sell their bread. The town is also being cleaned with the renovation of the Likomba roundabout.

Moukondo has proven himself - AyukNdip Charles

Today, the mayor of Tiko is one year in office. He has proven himself as hardworking. The cleaning of the streets, grading of the roads with seawall and the construction of culverts are glaring proof of the mayor’s drive to develop Tiko. You can see the construction of the new Motor Park (he said pointing at some structures at the New Tiko Bus station under construction along the Tiko-Douala road). This Motor Park will bring in a lot of income to the council. It will also help bring order in the town and also give more money to the Taxi Drivers since they will have to carry passengers and bring them here.

He’s done far above pass mark - Glory

We want the mayor to do more for the people of Tiko. We are however thankful of the development efforts being made. We can see that the town is much cleaner now, though a lot still needs to be done. Also, we hope that security will be provided for the lock up hangers that are being constructed for bread sellers in Mutengene. We are indeed happy that finally, the Tiko Main Market will go operational with lots of facilities being put in place. I must commend the foresight of the mayor and compared to the mayor we had before him, I can say that he is doing far above the pass mark.

New Bus Station will better livelihoods - Mbonziga Adeline

The motor park is going to boost our business here. I sell oranges and I’m sure that when traffic in the Motor Park increases, I’ll make more money. I can only be thankful to the mayor for thinking of opening up this part of the town. We also want the mayor to provide security for the park and also ensure that the park will have good lighting and other facilities.
