Three die at Nkolkaï on the Yaounde-Bafoussam interchange

Accident Accident

An accident involving two public transport buses and a sand truck, which occurred at Nkolkaï on Friday night, has led to the death of three people.

After the incident at the locality between Obala and Monatélé, local residents have been working on traffic control since Saturday morning.

A minibus was parked on the side of the road to allow the easy movement of cars but there was difficulty in the flow in both directions.

The atmosphere was filled with the mixture of blood and foodstuff (carrots, cabbage, tomato,etc.). Given the tangled pile of sheets present on the site, the remains of the bus transit, registered EC 890 FK, it was hard to believe that survivors came out of the carcass.

"Late at night, we heard the screech of a truck that seemed to move with difficulty and very slowly on the descent. We heard two loud sounds and shouting. We went out and found some car wrecks. The volunteers began to help the victims. The wounded were evacuated to Obala and Efock. It looked like the truck had brake problems and no head lights. It is possible that one of the buses which could not see the truck in darkness, violently struck it from behind before being hit by another bus coming from the opposite direction," Valerius Mba explained.

Another witness, a truck driver, added that, "I saw the bus earlier and it had problems. The motor boy was perched between the cab and cargo box beckoning cars to pass. He moved with difficulty, but they told us there was no problem.”
According to the police authorities in Obala, three deaths were registered on the spot and the number of casualties could rise given the number of injuries of varying severity.

Meanwhile, residents complained of these trucks carrying sand and very often in poor condition."

At one time, the administrative authorities had prohibited the circulation of these trucks in the night. But nowadays, it has resumed," said Valerius Mba.
