Students schooled on the value of tourism

Samuel Fohtung engaged students of Tourism and Hospitality Management in the College of Business and Technology in a seminar to highlight tourism potentials in Cameroon. He focussed on the key indicators that makes Cameroon an alternative to regular tourist destinations.

He mentioned these factors during a presentation to the students on the diverse tourism hot spots in the country and the Congo Basin.

Samuel Fohtung, Tour Operator talking to the students about the ever growing business in tourism in the world, outlined to them the role of a tourist operator which entails conceiving a travelling plan and executing it.

In this light, he enumerated the different forms of tourism that include cultural, wildlife, conference as well as seaside tourism, which he said were all present in Cameroon.

To elaborate on the importance of tourism in the world, he further explained the role of the United Nations World Tourism Organization which is to promote responsible and sustainable tourism while enforcing competitive tourism and the fight against Climate Change.

Cameroon he said is Africa’s melting pot with diverse biodiversity and a wide range of tourist attractions. However, he asserted that 80% of Cameroonians know less than 20% of Cameroon.

It is on this note that he called on the students to come in as part of the change in Cameroon and not a part of the problem. He went on to remind them that they are in a place where their dreams, wishes and aspirations can be achieved.

It is worth mentioning that, at the start of the seminar, the Provost, Prof. Wilfred Ndongko called on the students to pay attention to the speaker and seize the opportunity to amass from his vast experience. The students left the seminar fulfilled and contented.
