Southern Motowoh gets quarter head

The first Quarter Head of Southern Motowoh Quarter Council, George Eyole Hadison, at the weekend received his instrument and staff of office from the Chairman of Limbe Traditional Council, Mr. Duse Anthony, at a colourful ceremony at downtown Limbe.

Before the motley crowd that witnessed the ceremony Mr. Duse said the new quarter head has had a rich long history in the family line.

Duse Anthony disclosed that a certain Houston Johnson, in Hadison’s family line, was first blackman in Council in the days of Alfred Saker in Limbe, that Eyole’s uncle was once Mayor and in his grand uncle also once lived in what is today Southern Motowoh, he went on. “So, Hadison is taking a place rightly his.”

On his part, Eyole Hadison promised to, as much as possible, live happily with all men, “And that is going to be my principle,” he added, further promising to transmit all complaints in the neighborhood to the Mayor through writing.

To his councilors, he urged hard work to ensure that his promises to the people will not be empty in the end. Eyole’s brutally frank address to rumour mongers and other such persons, during his installation, indicate that the Quarter Head is aware of the dangers inherent in local politicking. Referring to “idlers who peddle falsehood and take it as a preoccupation,” he warned: Calculate the number of councilors, 22, because that will be the amount to put down in the Quarter Council before I judge your case.”

The new Quarter Head is anxious, like any loving father, to leave behind a sound legacy in a neighbourhood his forebear have suffered much to give a clean reputation.

Reading the traditional decision appointing the Quarter Head earlier, Councilor Moki Monono said the statement from the South West Governor’s office gave the names of George Eyole Hadison as Quarter Head of Southern Motowoh.

The statement, Councilor Monono continued, stated that “the new council shall remain thus until otherwise made known.”

The council, according to the government, “shall exercise and perform specific functions in accordance with the dictates of Limbe Traditional Council, or any other enactment.”

The statement further listed the functions of the Quarter Head and added that “the quorum of the council shall be as duly elected by Southern Motowoh Quarter Council.
