Seven transport agencies installed in prohibited areas were closed down yesterday by the prefect of Wouri, Naseri Paul Bea.

The operation followed after warnings and summons without responses from travel agencies.

According to the prefecture, the closure of these travel agencies lies in the fight against urban disorder and civil protection.

At feu rouge Bessengue, in the 1st District of Douala, two agencies were affected. Passengers, with travel tickets and waiting for departure, were asked to go elsewhere. Officials, according to the present authorities, did not comply with the instructions given to them, which led to the closure.

Two other transport structures, well-known in Deido suffered the same fate. In front of hotel Lewat, three agencies that run between the Littoral Region and the Western Region have been requested to release the site they occupy for several years

Once the delegation of the prefect left, an agency used its garage to pick up passengers in secret. But unfortunately for them, the head of the region again carried out a tour there.

For Naseri Paul Bea, agencies must use the park in Bonaberi, in the District of Douala IV. Furthermore, the fact that these companies load on the pavement has caused filth and many other situations which does not conform with the rules.

Fritz Ntonè Ntonè, Government Delegate at the Communauté Urbaine of Douala, said the bus station at Sodiko, is in a state of advanced dilapidation, will be built as early as the end of the rains. The public-private partnership has permitted them to get a partner.

However, other topics were discussed at the briefing after the tour. In particular, the collection of household refuse which are beginning to pose serious problems in certain districts, endless traffic jams and the Ndokoti crossroads which is at the helm of disorder.
