Senators, local Councillors in consultations at Mbalmayo

The Senators and local Councillors engaged in consultations at Mbalmayo on Thursday September 25, 2014 during the ninth stage of the parliamentary tour of senators from the Centre.

During the meeting which lasted for more than three hours between the Group of senators from the Centre and the local elected officials of the Department of Nyong-and-So'o, reflected on the importance of the concerns raised by the mayors. It was in the presence of the prefet Emmanuel Mariel Djikdent.

During the ninth stage of the regional parliamentary tour, the Group of senators from the Centre met with local elected representatives of Nyong-and-So'o to understand concretely what the Senate brings from daily experiences.

In addition, Mayor of Mbalmayo, Dieudonné Zang Mba, raised the issue of the municipal executive salary.

"In Cameroon, We have four types of elected people; the President of the Republic, Deputies, Senators and Mayors. Of all the four, only the last receives no salary. What seems paradoxical for someone who is called upon to manage significant funds and has nothing at the end of the month", he revealed.

To address these multiple concerns, senators from the Centre first recapitulating their role as representatives of the decentralized territorial communities.

"We have to reiterate our support in their development efforts. To make it effective, we invited the mayors to form Union of municipalities. This will in turn facilitate our interventions and will share difficulties and experiences”, stated Sylvestre Naah Ondoua, spokesperson for the Group of senators from the Centre.

The Group of Senators brought a practical response to the problem of displacement caused by the mayors of Nyong-and-So'o. Thus, six motorcycles and a computer were handed to Commons.
