Secondary roads undergo rehabilitation in Yaoundé

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu) and Yaoundé Urban Community (Cuy) have rehabilitated secondary roads in neighbourhoods in Yaoundé.

Rehabilitation of potholes was carried out. Some pictures on the roads in several districts of Yaoundé were captured by Cameroon Tribune (CT); Tam-Tam, Nsimeyong, Efoulan, Anguissa, Ngoa-Ekelle, Nsam, among others.

From Biyem-Assi, the small path on the left side of the road, to the Acacias roundabout when coming from Shell Nsimeyong has also experienced some change. The traces of dust were no longer very visible on the walls of houses.

Minhdu and Cuy has enabled modernity and development in these areas which is enjoyed by the inhabitants. Also, the pieces of planks serving as a platform for motrbikes have now become a thing of the past.

One can certainly deplore the lack of parking along the route, close to ‘Niki Biyem-Assi’, but for local residents, it is not serious. Much has been done. This is because next to the ramp, several secondary roads (four or five in the area) were rehabilitated.

The roads used to be impenetrable before they were reconstructed. "It was terrible before. Even on foot, you can’t come out. Since this shaft was built, we are relieved,” recalled Anatole Y., a motorist.

Local residents did not hide their satisfaction either. Accustomed to sweat in traffic at the Acacias junction or wading in the mud on the secondary roads, they said goodbye to their ordeal through the development of these corridors.

Michel Awa, one of them said "the area has become beautiful. We can finally wash our clothes and dry them without them being soiled by dust. We are happy and say thank you to the government delegate of the Yaoundé City Council." But he sadly recollected a time when he used to walk sluggishly when the road was bad. He revealed how some motorists forget their foot on the accelerator. Two accidents were recorded and fortunately, no life was lost. Like other parents, he requested that speed bumps are placed on the axis, so that the source of happiness today will not be the cause of the misfortune of tomorrow.

At Tam-Tam, where the bulging section at a place called ‘Terre rouge’ to Damase district was asphalted, pedestrians and drivers were also thrilled. "We are satisfied and say thank you for the work that was done here. Previously, this road was treacherous. It has been very well paved. This is a very good initiative carried out by the authorities,” said Hubert Nzoyem, a local resident.

Rehabilitations were everywhere; many secondary roads in Yaoundé experienced a makeover. At the CUY, one well-informed source indicated that these improvements will continue in other areas when there is availability of resources.
