Sangmélima-Mengong road in deplorable condition

Route Sangmelima-MengongRoute Sangmelima-Mengong

The Sangmélima-Mengong road which connects users to Ebolowa is in a deplorable state since work was halted.

The mere mention of the subject on development work of this road can cause a dispute because the road project which started in August 2011 was quickly washed out.

The people affected have been on countless occasions convinced that the road will soon be completed for easy access to Sangmélima, capital of the department of Dja-Et-Lobo and Ebolowa, the regional capital of the South.

“Bad, Bad”, were the words used by inhabitants of the villages between Mengong and Sangmélima to describe what they call “the plight of the road today”.

After a rainfall on Saturday, June, 12, the Yaounde-Mbalmayo-Ebolowa intersection was left in a terrible state. Thus, using the route from Mengong to Sangmélima, one cannot help but notice the 74 kilometers stretch won’t be an easy walk.

Furthermore, the 30 kilometers road from Koungoulou to Melane of Mefiep to Nnemeyong of Enyeng Ababita is difficult for travelers to use. The most skilled driver would have to demonstrate a proven dexterity.

Anyone who uses the road would have to go on a descent covered by a muddy ground which makes it a great deal to stay on the same path especially after a rainfall.

It is however important to be on the same lane else you would have to request for help to get you out of the quagmire.

The Nkol-Eton - Evelessi section is another obstacle path that ends at the Zo'ebefam junction after the user has gone through an ordeal on Evelessi-stade de Bilon and Nfefe-Nlamon road.

At Zo'Ebefam, the traveller has the choice of using the right turn, a 38 km route that leads to Monavebe vicinity in Sangmélima.

In order to stay off the main road, we are left with no option but to remain on the certified route located at the Avebe village which covers a distance of 42 km.

The Zo'ebefam road in Avebe has long lost the qualities of a good road. The grass has invaded the roadside and can only be used by motorcyclists. The remaining road is covered by a river as a result of degradation that in alarming proportions.

Arriving at Avebe, you will meet groundworks made by the Spanish company Galdiano, who left the site. In their statements, villagers are "left to themselves and are helpless about what happens to them.

“Transportation fares have been increased with prices doubled. To move from Evelessi to Sangmélima was FCFA 1000 but now it cost FCFA 2000”, said a resident.

According to Paul Emile Medouane Bisse, the Chief of the Nkoleteto village, people should know that when the State decides to do something about the situation, it will, even though the people are in a difficult situation.
