The Mayor of the 6th town of Douala, Ernest Edimo has made it known that the salary arrears of workers at the municipality will be resolved as soon as possible.

Martin Nkega, the staff representative confirmed that the Mayor was contacted on Monday June 1 and he assured the Manoka municipal employees that if everything turns out well, they will receive their pay by Wednesday.

Meanwhile employees of the community in Douala kept on going to work with less motivation even though some of them complain of their financial situation.

One of the employees, insisting anonymity made mention that “the last pay we had was for the month of November 2014. It was paid in the beginning of the following month as usual”.

According to Nkega, “We entered the new year without any salary arrears. As we are in the 5th month of 2015 it can’t be overlooked as a backlog”.

The staff representative said the case is on a low key because “we are aware of the situation. Whenever the Mayor meets with us, he tells us about each development. He hinted the difficulties the municipality faces”.

Ernest Edimo said "The town of Manoka has no revenue. The money we get is from stationed fishing boats. But nobody funds the community because they told us that we have the DGF (Dotation générale de fonctionnement attribuée par l’Etat et passant par la Communauté urbaine de Douala).

“The money we get from fishermen is not enough. We do not even make 20 million francs a year. We received at least 20-22 million F, but a 50% tax is cut out”, he added.

He stated reasons for the delay were huge indebtedness to suppliers, the Dgf not receiving money or refunds.

The local administrative authority of the 6th district of Douala, in turn informed the head of Cad who is the Prefecture of Wouri.
