SODEIT donates chalk boards to seven govt schools

The Social Development Foundation, SODEIT, in partnership with Project Solution USA, have donated 15 chalkboards to some seven Government primary schools in the Buea Municipality.

The boards were recently handed over to the authorities of the schools by the staff of the aforementioned organisations.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of SODEIT, Suliaman Turay, the donation is coming two months after his organisation carried out an a need assessment research in some primary schools in the Buea Municipality.

The research, Turay went on, revealed that most primary schools, especially Government schools, do not have good chalkboards and the poor or near absence of these boards in some cases, hampered the teaching-learning process.

“With the help of our funding partner, Project Solution USA, which made available $ 350 ( circa FCFA 175,000) we were able to put these boards together,” Turay stated.

According to the SODEIT CEO, “Children’s education is a human right issue. Since the United Nations has been talking about quality and universal education, in order to respect the post 2015 Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, we decided to contribute our own quota in ensuring that Cameroon attains this MDG on universal access to free and quality education.”

Turay exhorted the beneficiaries to make good use of the boards. “It is only by making good use of these boards that you can improve on the quality of education and help Cameroon attain the post-2015 MDGs,” Turay said.

The Head Teachers of Government Practicing School Muea Group I and II, Ashu Ewumbe Ashu and Grace Etombi Mbela, respectively, thanked the staff of SODEIT and Project Solution USA for the boards.

According to the head Teachers, even though the two organisations did not inform them of the gifts, “the boards are the best surprises we have received this year. We were really in dire need of good chalkboards because the ones we have are really bad. At times, we have to write and wipe off what we have written to enable us have space to complete our lessons.

This writing and wiping really affects slow learners. These chalkboards will greatly solve this problem,” the averred.

The Head Teachers pleaded with the staff of SODEIT and Project Solution USA to in the future, also look into the aspect of textbooks.
