SDO imposes conditions on inter-urban transporters

Following the incessant attacks of inter-urban buses in the 2013 festive period (Christmas and New Year) which led to several injured, property and money seized, the SDO for Mezam has imposed stringent measures to stamp out such attacks.

A recent meeting grouping the Mezam administration, transporters and the forces of law and order arrived at a memorandum of understanding to regulate departure of inter-urban buses from from Bamenda to the Centre, South West and Littoral regions during this festive period.

According to the memorandum of understanding, all transport buses going to the Centre, South West or Littoral regions must be at the customs premises Up Station by 10 pm.

The SDO for Mezam, Nguele Nguele Felix stressed that any transport agency that violates the order shall not be allowed to leave Bamenda. He announced that this time, the elements of the rapid intervention battalion commonly known as BIR, shall accompany transport buses to their respective destinations.

Besides, Nguele Nguele warned that no travel agency shall issue tickets to any passenger after 10 pm. Note was taken that in 2013, men of the underworld did not only attack buses on the highways but several travel agency offices were attacked in Bamenda and millions carted away.
