SDO, gov’t delegate, ask NTACCUL to arrest poverty

The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Meme, David Koulbout Aman, and the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Victor NkelleNgoh, have urged the management of the Ntarinkon Cooperative Credit Union,NTACCUL, to help eradicate poverty among the rural masses in Kumba and the entire Southwest Region.

Koulbout and Nkelle made the appeal on March 22, while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of a new NTACCUL branch in Kumba.

The Government Delegate stated that the philosophy of the credit union fits into a cosmopolitan society like Kumba and its neighbouring Divisions such as Ndian and KupeMuanenguba, given that, most of the people rely on subsistence farming.

Nkelle urged the credit union to salvage the population from unprofitable ventures such as the infamous “10 born 10” phenomenon, where families pledge their farms for sums of money which they are unable to repay.

With the coming of NTACCUL, the Government Delegate said, the institution has a reputation for decades which distinguishes it from other micro-finance institutions in the same sector.

Ngoh averred that the new NTACCUl branch in Kumba has come to add to the numerous financial houses that have made Kumba the melting pot of economic activities in the Southwest.

He challenged NTACCUL management to rekindle a new spirit of economic take-off, coupled with the creation of institutions such as HTTTC Kumba that will bring in some 500 new persons in Kumba.

The SDO said the institution was welcome to Kumba, because, it meets up with all the demands of the law governing the sector in Cameroon.Koulbout assured NTACCUL management of the support of the administration to provide security and peace at all times.

Earlier, the President of NTACCUL, Cletus Anye, told the audience that, for over 43 years, NTACCUL, which started as a discussion group, has transformed the lives of some 30,000 people.

He assured the population and authorities that the institution has come to Kumba with the same spirit;to transform the lives of other Cameroonians and bring them out of poverty.
