SDO Zang threatens to arrest recalcitrant Muyuka councillors

Zang III, Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Fako has promised to severely penalise belligerent councillors in Muyuka, who said continue to make the Mayor’s job difficult.

He made the promise during a recent Ordinary Session of the Council. The SDO in making the warning observed that since the last municipal elections of September 30, 2013, political differences are yet to be resolved in Muyuka; especially after the election of Nkeng Michael Akamin as mayor of the municipality.

Zang pointed out that political witch-hunting, backbiting, slander and bad faith are detrimental to the development of the municipality.

The SDO insinuated that those who stood and lost the elections against Nkeng in Muyuka appear to be spending sleepless nights on how to oust him.

He was referring to an alleged meeting held by some councillors during which a plot was supposed to be hatched to pass a vote of no confidence on the mayor and then culminate by asking for his resignation.

“I advise once more and for the last time that you work with the Mayor…Illegal meetings at night have to be stopped. Those who want to be mayor should wait for five years for elections to come. But as you wait, remember that now is the time for Nkeng,” Zang said in a hard tone.

He warned that if Nkeng, and his team are not given the chance to work in serenity, he (Zang) will resort to measures that they will not like.

“I’ll take my responsibility as SDO to bring order. If you want to be arrested, then you will be arrested. A climate of understanding, unity and solidarity must prevail in Muyuka Council. Team work must be your modus operandi.

Posterity will judge you based on your present actions,” Zang said.

He urged the councillors to use appropriate legal means to have their differences resolved.

“If you can’t come to me because I’m close to Nkeng, then seek other avenues,” Zang advised.

The mayor on his part told his councillors that time for politics is over, stressing that it is now time they work towards the realisation of their campaign promises.

“Let me inform my fellow politicians that the goal of politics is for governing and when the period comes, we play the politics. When the period is over, we make the population feel that they made the right choice. I want to remind politicians of my party, the CPDM, that they should understand that in five years, we shall stand before the electorate and give an account. My appeal is for us to stop politics.”

After listening to complaints of insubordination and corruption among staff of the council, Zang warned: “Council funds are state funds. So there is regulation in the management of council funds . I instruct the mayor to send us a report on those who embezzle council funds, so we can take necessary action because I’ve received complaints from mayors that tax collectors embezzle council funds.”

Despite the heated arguments that characterised the gathering, Nkeng has said his vision is to transform Muyuka into a veritable paradise.

Among the several road, water and electrification projects, the council has executed, Nkeng said the municipal mortuary will go operational as soon as a purchased 66KW generator is brought to the site.
