Prefect and sub-prefect accused of corruption and bias

The prefect of the Mayo-Danay, Nkwenti Simon Ndo and sous Prefect of Yagoua, Oumar Bichair, are accused of forcefully taking lands belonging to the people of Bailhidi village, for the sum of 2,000,000 CFA francs.

Tension currently rages in Yagoua, where populations are ready to take up arms in order to find a solution to their problem in case the administrative authority persists in “this scam and bias”.

The tension began since September 2014 which according to the people, started with a sale of land operated by Tatiya on a plot belonging to the people of the Bailhidi village.

They illegally sold the village land to third parties with the involvement of the authorities of the Department. Therefore, in May 2014 a complaint was made by the populations of the Bailhidi village against the Tatiya to the sub-prefect of Yagoua, Oumar Bichair and the lamido.

However, the sub-prefect who took up the matter set up a commission of inquiry with the support of the prefect Nkwenti Simon Ndo. But after a tour to the field of Vounsoumna and Bagoa Ngadam, Tatiya gave a sum of 750,000 Fcfa to the sub-prefect, to take over the disputed site.

Since then the disputed parcel was declared a buffer zone by the sub-prefect until last Tuesday in an attempt to reconcile the parties. According to the people, the prefect of Mayo Danyo, Simon Kwenti Ndoh, who received a sum of 1,200,000 Fcfa did not keep his promise to install them on the land. He also uttered threats to the populations of Bailhidi village, directing them to leave the land within a short time.

Our attempt to contact the prefect and the sub-prefect to have their version of the story concerning the sum of two million francs that they are suspected to have received was futile.

The sub-prefect of Yagoua meanwhile is said to have been mistreating the populations of the Kirsidi, Bailhidi and Noyombe villages.
