Water crisis Water crisis

Several areas of the city of Douala and its environs are deprived of drinking water for several days forcing inhabitants to use wells and streams.

Recently, the populations were seen with water containers on their heads, in wheelbarrows or conveying containers in cars reflecting the plight of many inhabitants of the city of Douala.

A resident of Cité Sic in the fifth district said: "the delivery lasts for four days. The taps are dry. We are forced to use water from wells and streams. The problem is that this water is not always safe."

The situation is the same in other areas. In PK14 in the 3rd district, the population were worried as one of them said for a week now water has not been running and in the past, water used to run during the night but not anymore. "We are going to demonstrate to express our dissatisfaction."

According to a resident of New-Bell neighborhood in the second district, "the situation is critical since the wells are exposed to waterborne diseases and it is unsafe for consumption."

For now, both the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (CAMWATER) and the CRC, a private company in charge of trade component, a subsidiary of the National Office of drinking Water in Morocco (ONEP) supply water to the communities.
