Parent assaults teacher at Lycée de Djamboutou

Teachers of Lycée de Djamboutou have protested by abandoning their classrooms for about a week. This tension specifically ensued between teachers and a parent in Lycée de Djamboutou after a parent was said to have attacked a teacher for punishing her child.

According to a teacher at Lycée de Djamboutou, their colleague had punished a student in form 2 and the punishment was not supported by the mother of the child. "The girl in question who is in form 2 was chewing gum in class during lessons. For her punishment, the teacher asked her to bring 100 chewing gum to school the next day", a teacher who required anonymity explained.

On the day the girl had to present the chewing gums to school; her mother followed her to meet her teacher. The angry Lady reportedly got physical with the young teacher in front of the entire student body.

"We feel very bad to realize that after all, we are not protected by anyone as professionals as an individual can visit our premise to physically attack and assault us. We have thus decided to stop lectures to demonstrate our anger", continued the teacher.

To remedy the situation, the head of the institution met the irate parent who was forced to apologize to the assaulted teacher. A crisis meeting was then held between the headmaster and the teachers who demanded the dismissal of the student.
