Talks were recently held in Muslim communities to understand the merits of security measures.

Niqap burqa or Hijab, veils worn by many Muslim women, are now an object of attention. After the recent security measures taken by the public authorities with a view of countering human bombs, a campaign of explanation towards Muslim women was expected.

The association of girls and women from the Faro did not waited for any injunction to cease the situation. Through the Treasurer of the association, Issa Hapsatou, also Director of the Centre for advancement of women of Garoua, awareness sessions were held.

The aim is to explain to each member of the association the merits of the ban on the wearing of these integral sails in the fight against Boko Haram. At these meetings, Issa Hapsatou explained to her sisters the need for compliance with government requirements.

"These security measures do not conflict with the Muslim faith", she made them understand. "You can practice your faith while trying to respect the laws and decisions of a country, especially if they are directed towards the preservation of peace and security,” she hammered.

Each Member was invited to pass this valuable information from the other sister associations as well as in their respective families. However, Issa Hapsatou recognized that these security measures are not always welcomed. Some of them feeling frustrated, did not fail to voice it out.

"However, the majority of them understood the need to implement these measures for the good of all," she said. To broaden this awareness to the greatest number, the Director of the Centre for advancement of women in Garoua undertook the same approach of outreach to girls put at her disposal under the training provided by her centre. Issa Hapsatou plans on spreading the idea to other sister structures.
