Mobile teams deployed for road safety patrol

This is one of the measures taken by the police to secure the Yaoundé-Bafia-Makénéné axis last Saturday as a prelude to the May 20th festivities.

Mobile patrols were deployed to discourage lawless motorists along the Yaoundé-Bafia-Makénéné stretch on Saturday. As a result of the patrol, a motorist caught duplicating the line was arrested by a biker of the patrol and he was taken to Obala-Efock. Here, he will be required to pay a fine of 25 000 F for this offence. This measure initiated by the gendarmerie is to secure the road for a few days during the celebration of the feast of unity.

To do this, these patrols crisscrossed Yaoundé-Bafia-Makénéné road all day to remind some unruly users and bring the recalcitrant ones to order. "It is realized that between two or three controls, road users engage in many offences. This is why apart from these fixed positions, we have set up mobile patrols. Thus, between two controls, they can easily catch road offenders. This measure is beneficial because many motorists in violation have been intercepted and called to order," noted major general, Simon Pierre Dagafounangsou, Commander of the first region of the gendarmerie, also supervisor of the Yaoundé-Bafia-Makénéné road.

This measure which is beneficial, however, is not welcomed by some motorists, who are reluctant and threaten even to hit the elements of the patrols with their vehicles.

Beyond these mobile monitors, "there are search of vehicles that go towards the direction of large metropolises. To do this, there are the metal detectors that allow them to find the holders of weapons. No blunder should be recorded on the day of the May 20th celebration", explained the general of the division.

Moreover, bad bypassing, the non compliance with speed limit, overloads and plates hidden have been the lot of offences registered Saturday on the Yaoundé-Bafia-Makénéné road.
