Abba Sali, an 18-year-old man, originally from Mayo-Danay, Far North region, was stabbed with a dagger on the head by a mentally ill man who lived in the community.

"It happened so fast. I found Abba Sali dying while people watched and his killer, the mentally ill man who is well known in the community, was not worried at all," said Patrick, a passerby.

The victim was quickly transported to the regional hospital of Ngaoundéré, said our source. "Once at the hospital, doctors tried to stop the bleeding but he ran out of blood".

"The doctor of the emergency room administered care till he gained consciousness. He managed to disclose his name and address but later lost consciousness and died a few hours after," he said in shock.

Meanwhile, the murderer was arrested by the police but was surprisingly released shortly after. The mentally ill man, whose identity was not known, later returned to the scene of the crime, which served as his home, at the dismay of residents.

According to the witnesses at the scene, this is the third incident caused by the mentally ill man. He had already taken away the life of two other men in two different locations of the city in 2009 and 2013. Abba Sali was his third victim.

"As violent as he is, this mad man always surprises people, nobody dares to approach him in the district. His victims, which in most cases do not know, fall into his trap and are in permanent danger," noted Aboubakar, owner of a shop in the area.

The victim, Muslim, was buried a few hours after his death.
