Maroua demonstrates sub-regional integration

Cameroonian soldiers in Maroua celebrated with pomp the feast of National unity with troops from Chad.

Three highlights marked the great parade at place des fêtes in Maroua. First of all the quite remarkable march past of the Chadian military company of intervention in Cameroon (Farrell), commanded by Brigadier-general Hale Dari Bazum.

The parade of these special guests who came to fight alongside the Cameroonian soldiers against Boko Haram, terrorist sect based in Nigeria, caused much emotion among the thousands of Cameroonians who were present at place des fêtes in Maroua. Applause and shouts of joy accompanied their passage punctuated by unanimous original movements.

The occasion was suitable for the Cameroonian defense forces, under the command of colonel Léandre Emmanuel Kenmegne, who demonstrated their commitment and their determination to defend the territorial integrity of Cameroon, second highlight of this major event, which will have been less spectacular.

Supported in the air by the multiple towers of helicopters which ensured the fly-past, the Cameroonian army took the opportunity to present its multiple equipment both weapons and vehicles used in the war against Boko Haram.

The last highlight has been the civilian parade. Pupils, students, members of the civil society associations, political activists executed steps to enhance their patriotism through songs, signs where one could read: "Boko Haram: Game is over. Activists of the CPDM, of the UNDP, SDF, MDR, FSNC, ANDP, UPC have marked their passage through the messages of support to the army.
