MTN Foundation launches "Digital Schools" 2015

The program, "Digital Schools", has been launched by the MTN Foundation to reduce the digital divide in secondary schools in Cameroon via the installation of equipment and multimedia centers.

It was a day of joy in Tiko bilingual High School in the South West region. This is definitely a secondary school that has entered the new world through this first multimedia center installed and fully equipped by the MTN Foundation in Cameroon thanks to the "Digital Schools" program.

These are 20 brand new computers with 4 integrated microprocessors, a multifunction printer, a video-projection equipment, furniture (tables, chairs and wardrobe) and a broadband internet connection. These devices use cyber cloud solution that can be utilized from remote assistance.

The introduction of ICTs in this establishment will "give each student digital education and skills that have today become indispensable for a successful professional and social integration. We believe the MTN Foundation's ICT will renew teaching methods and improve the performance of our educational system, "says Melvin Akam, the secretary general of the MTN Foundation.

This center will be of great benefit to 2,472 students and teachers of this institution. They will be able to "significantly improve performance and further increase the positive success rate of 85.77% registered by their schools during the academic year 2014," suggests Melvin Akam.

This multimedia center in Tiko high school is the first of this year 2015. Another nine will be installed and equipped in coming days in already targeted schools. These are the Ngaoundal High School in Adamawa, Zamengoué High School in the Center, High Belabo east, Mora High School in the Far North, High School in Loum, Littoral, Figuil High School in North, High School bilingual Mbengwi in the Northwest, Bangangté Bilingual High School and High School bilingual Ebolowa in the South.

Five (5) other facilities will be determined by the Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) and the MTN Foundation before the next school year.

The "Digital Schools" is part of the innovative and dynamic partnership signed October 30, 2013 between the MTN Foundation and MINESEC to improve the performance of the education system.

To date since 2005, the foundation opened forty multimedia centers to the delight of more than 60,000 students and 4,000 teachers. 70% of the centers are located in rural areas.
