MIDENO congratulated for LIFIDEP conception

The Senior Divisional Officer for Bui, Theophile Nzeki, has congratulated the management of the Northwest Development Authority, MIDENO, for putting in place the Livestock and Fisheries Development Project for the Northwest Region, LIFIDEP.

The SDO made this remark while launching the informal sensitisation meeting of LIFIDEP at the level of Bui Division. Nzeki said the launching of the informal sensitisation meeting of LIFIDEP was a turning point in the rural development of Bui Division as far as cattle breeders are concerned, given that the project is integrated in nature and a success key to Livestock breeders.

He revealed that the project which has been sponsored by the Islamic Bank to the tune of FCFA 30 billion is a serious project that has come to improve on the living standards of those who rear cows and small ruminants.

He called on the Livestock farmers of Bui Division to take advantage of the Veterinary School at Jakiri and the Tadu Dairy Cooperative society to be the first beneficiaries of the Livestock and Fisheries Development project of the Northwest Region by being well organised, hardworking and strict in respecting the terms of the project by contributing their own quota towards the project.

The coordinator of LIFIDEP for Northwest Region, Pius Mbipeh, who represented the Director General of MIDENO at the occasion, said the massive attendance of the participants in the meeting was an indication that they need the intervention of the project. He said the sensitization meeting was focused on the selection of Artificial insemination points and small ruminant farms.

He called on participants to stay put till the end of the meeting so as to gain more insight on the project. Mbipeh said that this phase of the MIDENO project is based on the development of cattle and poultry and called for active participation to enable the participants derive maximum benefits from the project.

Presenting the project the coordinator said it will cover all the seven Divisions and the 34 Subdivisions of the Northwest Region. He was thankful to the Director General, His Excellency John B. Ndeh who conceived the project and presented it to the Isalimic Bank, yielding a sponsorship of FCFA 26.2 billion from it, and FCFA 2.8 billion from the Cameroon Government.

He defined the objective of the project to include the increase of rural income for the farmers and the kick out of poverty as well as an increase in the production of cows, goats, fowls and sheep. There will also be an improvement in the pastures, provision of seeds, materials for fencing cows and marketing as well as some 500km of roads to be constructed to grazing areas and social infrastructures like schools and health centers in grazing areas.

The 4th Deputy Mayor of Kumbo Council, Ibrahim Yufenyuy, told participants to listen attentively to the experts so as to gain more knowledge on the project. He thanked the Islamic Bank for funding the project and the management of MIDENO for conceiving the project to benefit the rural population, particularly the cattle breeders.
