Kumba Urban MP donates to hospital, schools

Honourable Mbanya Bolevie, National Assembly Member for Kumba Urban Constituency has dedicated his 2014 micro-projects grants to improve on social welfare services. He made donations to that end last Wednesday, August 20, 2014.

At the Catholic Health Centre Fiango, Kumba Baptist Health Centre and at the Ntam Health Centre, the ambiance and euphoria was telling of a people who have been abandoned for long by previous MPs.

The joy in the hearts of the population was evident of the numerous shouts of “thank you papa MP. You have come to care for our needs. We pray that God will give you long life do that you can give us development.”

At Catholic Health Centre Fiango (St John Bosco Hospital), the officials told Hon. Mbanya and his delegation that they have acute shortage of beds and other equipment. They even say at times, the demands become so great that they are tempted to put more than one patient on the same bed.

Visibly touched, Hon. Mbanya donated six hospital beds and matrasses, six bedside cupboards and 10 stools.

At Kumba Baptist Health Centre, the MP made a similar donation, promising to do more when the means are available.

Even though there is no operational space for the time being for the Kosala Health Centre, it also received 6 beds and mattresses plus six bedside cupboards and 10 side stools. Those health centres without space had their equipment kept at the Kumba II council.

At Government Bilingual Primary School (GBPS) Kosala Group IV, the Member of Parliament for Kumba Urban donated three bundles of corrugated iron sheets for the roofing of classrooms whose roof was taken off by winds close to 15 years ago. The 150 sheets were accompanied by roofing nails.

Agnes Ebude, Head Teacher of GBPS Kosala and Oscar Eyong taboko-Ayuk, President of the Parent teacher Association of GBPS Kosala were on hand to receive the gifts.

The Head Teacher described the donations as a “rescue package for a school that hasn’t classrooms of its own and whose pupils are squeezed into the available classrooms.”

After receiving the gifts with cupped-hands, the officials at GBPS Kosala promised the MP that pupils will have new classrooms to use given that roofing on the uncapped classrooms will be over before schools resume on September 8.

After Kumba II Subdivision, Kumba III subdivision seem to have secured the biggest micro-projects, with the construction of a water point at Mahole and the provision of 8 beds, matrasses and bedside cupboards plus 20 stools to the Ntam Health Centre. Five benches (three metres long each) were also handed over to the Ntam health Centre, including the painting of the maternity walls and repair works on the floors of some of the wards.

The water supply at Teke was also rehabilitated, Laduma CDC Hospital given 10 stools and the procedure for establishing birth certificates simplified with the donation of one Pentium four desktop computer by Honourable Mbanya.

With all these projects to show and with a heavy support from the population, Johnson Ayuk of the CPDM said “nobody has the right to talk evil about the SDF in Kumba”, adding that he decided to give his vote to the SDF in the last elections not because he hates the CPDM, but because the party leadership at the time was not promising.

Kumba III SDF District Chairman and Kumba III mayor, John Kona Makia headed the Micro-projects committee in his subdivision, while the Kumba II SDF Electoral District Chairman, promise Chia did same in his area.

The committees chose and realised the projects funded by Hon. Mbanya through the 2014 micro-project grants.

Hon. Mbanya promises more “I instructed the micro-projects management committee to focus mostly on health and education. Basically, you know as a matter of fact that good health is wealth and off course, you know that the foundation of every development begins with education.

Even before next year, I have a plan to launch funds for the social welfare management committee for my institution. There, the needs of the less privileged will be catered for – the widows and orphans. By November, at the latest, this facility will be in place. This is not even fallout from the micro-project grants. I believe in development and Kumba is my birth place and my constituency and so development will flow in Kumba.

These donations will continue. Every individual, every community and every institution will benefit from the micro-projects grants. Personally, I did not take it as a personal issue that is why I created a committee to choose the projects, execute and give me to hand to the community. I’m only there to supervise.”
