Yaounde Central Prison Yaounde Central Prison

A prisoner at the Kondengui central prison in Yaoundé killed his fellow inmate over FCFA 50 on Saturday afternoon.

The incident which happened at the Kosovo district around 3:30pm had the killer who is nicknamed ‘Petit papa’ approach the victim called Kunde to claim his 50 FCFA.

Addicted to cannabis, Kunde bought cannabis for 50 CFA francs from Petit papa. Kunde delayed in payment after his time was due. Petit Papa however continued to remind Kunde of his debt when the opportunity presented itself.

When the latter was approached by the seller, he asked him to hold on so he could receive a visitor and will return his money after. But the cannabis seller could wait no longer.

The suspect immediately stabbed 24-year-old Kunde, killing him instantly with a knife in the presence of other detainees when he realized the victim had no money on him.

The inmates notified the prison guards who in turn sought help from the gendarmes. The victim's family was contacted straight away. They showed up at the scene 45 minutes later to take away his remains.

The alleged assassin meanwhile was questioned by the gendarmerie. He was charged for committing murder for the second time.

25-year-old Petit Papa was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of a teenager and “will have his sentence doubled” according to sources.

Aside being charged for murder, he will also be prosecuted for the possession and sale of drugs. And these drugs are one of the reasons he took away the life of his cellmate.

The Kosovo district was deemed to be the most dangerous of the prison. This is the second homicide it has recorded since the beginning of the year 2015. The first was in January.
