Kedjom-Keku Fon promises to destroy marijuana farms

The fon of Kedjom-Keku (Big Babanki) in Tubah Subdivision, HRH Fon Benjamin Vutsiboung, made a visit to Tekas Quarter - one of the 32 Quarters that make up the Kedjom-Keku village.

He was accompanied on the royal visit by some notables of the palace, the kedjom Traditional Council, KEKUDA, and Quarter-Heads on Thursday.

He and his entourage were received in the compound of the Quarter Head of Tekas, Elias Toh - a retired nurse, by a huge crowd comprising men, women and youths.

Elias Toh, in a welcome address, complained of the population refusing to pay water maintenance bills and rampant smoking of marijuana and gambling among the youths. Toh also complained of youths who do not attend meetings as well as failing to pay levies for the up-keep of the Quarter.

Fon Vutsiboung lauded the massive turnout while explaining that the visit was meant to listen to problems, advise and prescribe solutions to them as well as to enlighten the people on how to live vis-a-vis the laws of the fatherland.

The Fon expressed disappointment at a situation where some branches of KEKUDA have refused to pay dues due to discrepancies discovered in the payment of FCFA 700,000 to some KEKUDA officials where only a receipt of FCFA 300,000 was issued.

The Fon said he has instituted a commission to audit the accounts of KEKUDA dues as well as the KEKUDA dues forcefully collected at the level of the Quarters of the Village. He cautioned the Quarter-Heads against the use of KEKUDA levies for cases.

The Fon updated the population on the Big Babanki land disputes with Ndawara, Finge Village as well as that with Alhadji Inua. He regretted that eleven herds of cattle are grazing in the transhumance land in Big Babanki without the grazers being identified. He revealed that an appeal has been lodged against the case between Ndawara and the Village.

He said the old boundary between Finge Village and Big Babanki would be maintained and called on the people of Tekas Quarter to help him to put an end to gossip.

The Fon told the villagers that the role of the anti-gang in the Village is to maintain peace and not to settle land conflicts. He said those youth who violated the order on bars in the Village to close down as from 9.00pm will face the music. He said any marijuana grown in the Village should be off-rooted and destroyed immediately.

Fon Vutsiboung expressed happiness at the Tekas Quarter Head and his subjects who he described as good people without stubborn persons among them. He instructed them to widen the road opposite the Health Centre into the Quarter.
He praised the Mayor of Tubah for opening up roads in the Village and called on the youth who are the leaders of tomorrow to collaborate with the Quarter Head and his executive.

The Quarter Head implored the Fon to contact the authorities of the Trunk A Road to put speed brakes on the stretch from Catholic Mission to the Kedjom-Keku Health Centre in order to minimise accidents.

Other quarters visited include Chubali, Fendieng, Kisansan, Kebooh and Abobong.
