Inter-ministerial Committee on Local Services meet

The first regular session opened Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Yaoundé to verify if the available resources are managed in the interest of the people. The Minister, René Emmanuel Sadi launched the workshop yesterday.

This workshop will allow them to assess the effectiveness of transfers, both of skills and resources as well as their operational capability on the ground without complacency.

The first regular session of the year takes place in a context marked by the complete transfer to municipalities and urban communities since January 2015 of the powers laid down by the laws of 2004 following a schedule and programming required by the National Council of decentralization.

Significant advances have occurred in the implementation of the decentralization process in Cameroon. The Minister Sadi who is also Chairman of the Committee said that much remains to be done.

This session provides the opportunity to measure the impact of the resources made available to municipalities and urban communities, as part of the staffing General decentralization, five years after the creation of this special funding mechanism.

It's reassurance that the competences transferred by the State, the communes and urban communities are exercised and assumed to be the possible best, and that the resources available are managed in the interest of the people.

The State has initiated the development of a genuine national decentralization strategy. This document should direct and guide the different actions for the achievement of the objectives identified.

Municipalities and United cities of Cameroon (UCCC) are called to join public authorities, in the vast arena of work aimed at improving the living conditions of Cameroonians.

The implementation of the Training Centre in the city trades is a perfect illustration of the determination of the Communes to engage resolutely in searching for ways and means to increase their capabilities and hence their effectiveness. The fortieth anniversary of the FEICOM was a highlight in the inter sessional period of the Inter-ministerial Committee of local Services.

On this occasion, the actors and partners of decentralization magnified the achievements of Camille Appolinaire Akoa structure for the benefit of municipalities and urban communities.

At the end of the session in Yaoundé, concrete proposals are expected for the improvement of procedures for the exercise of the transferred competencies and corresponding resource management modes.
