Total calm and serenity marked voting in Dschang in Menoua Division of West Region where 99.02 per cent of the 197 eligible voters answered present at the Lycée Classique Dschang for the first ever senate election in Cameroon.
Drawn from Fongo-Tongo, Foukue, Santchuo, Penka Michel, Nkong-zem and Dschang Councils, the 196 councillors who constitute the Electoral College had cast their votes at about 1.30 pm at the three polling stations that hosted the elections in Dschang. According to the Divisional Head of ELECAM for Menoua, Mr.Denis Ateajeu Nkengsong, the handling of elections in Dschang was a further demonstration of ELECAM elections organisation experience.
According to Mayor Momo Bernard of Dschang, tension was eased following the earlier rejection of the CPDM list in the West Region. And when CPDM instructed its councilors to vote SDF and not CDU, he held a series of meetings with fellow councilors. Meanwhile, as at press time, 99.02 per cent of the voters had already cast their votes while waiting for the counting at 6 pm.
