Gun shots fired outside a French school in Douala

Gun shots were fired by a police inspector outside a French school in Douala the day François Hollande paid a visit to Cameroon.

According to a security source, the coming of François Hollande in Yaoundé, Friday, July 03, 2015, posed insecurity threats on French organizations in Cameroon.

In order to counter any possible attack, the Cameroonian authorities had deployed security forces and a backup riot around the French facilities of the country.

The France Consulate and the Domique Savio French School which has a nursery, primary and secondary department in the economic capital were under surveillance. Police officers and some heavily armed men had taken strategic positions at the main entrance to these French organizations in Cameroon and its surrounding intersections.

Everything went well until Seme, a student police inspector, committed a serious negligence at the primary of the French school located at the Bonapriso district in Douala.

"He made three rifle shots in air. I don't know the reason for his action which frightened especially the French who were inside the building at the time. When questioned, the Inspector explained that it was a wrong swing of his weapon that resulted in the shots", said an official of the Douala police.

In a state of panic, the French alerted the Consul who, in turn, informed Yaoundé and Paris. There was more fear than harm.

"But this matter is not going to remain at that. The police in the Littoral region, the regional delegate of the national security and the Commander of the mobile group of intervention number 2 have been called on for explanation. It may not end well,” the source said.
