The family of Benedict Djopong, sub-prefect of the district of Guider, is now homeless in Guider. From the night of Saturday, October 24 to Sunday October 25, their home was completely reduced to ashes.

"Not even a needle has been saved in that fire. The security guard first saw the flames that burned the home. He alerted the family of the sub-prefect in the house. They rushed out without taking anything from the house. The house was completely burned," said Andrew Egbe, an official at the departmental delegation of Transport, neighbor of the Subprefect.

Reached by phone, the Guider gendarmerie brigade commander, who has began an investigation, understands that the tragedy occurred as a result of power fluctuation.

On Saturday, October 24, the day of the fire, the electricity distribution company of Cameroon informed the people of the region that a power failure would occur due to the installation of a new transformer. Safety instructions were also given to the people for the occasion.

According to sources close to the case, these rules were not respected by the family of the sub-prefect of Guider, moving to Yaounde.

"We are still conducting our investigations. We'll listen to the guard who was the first to see the fire and all the others who were there. For now, I can not tell you more, we are working on it," reveals a source close to the ongoing investigation which can still not assess the level of damage caused by the fire.

But the wife of the sub-prefect said he lost 8 million CFA francs in that fire. A statement that the brigade commander refused to confirm.
