Governor Lele L'afrique First to Register in North West

Biometric registration of voters is effective in the North West Region since yesterday, October 3. Governor Lele Lafrique was the first person to register in Bamenda followed by other people.

After registering, the Governor called on all stakeholders of the electoral process to ensure the success of the process. He equally called on all Cameroonians of voting age in the region to come out in their numbers and register now so as to exercise their civic responsibility when the time comes.

According to the Head of the Division of Electoral Process and Referendum of ELECAM Menang Thaddeus, so far only seventeen kits are in the region out of the over 200 expected. He assured all that by the end of this month the remaining registration kits will be available. Mr Menang added that Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) has put in place financial, human resource as well as material means to ensure a successful exercise. He said so far they have started at the regional headquarters so has to evaluate the performance of both human and material resources before extending to the other council areas of the country. As per how the system functions Minang Thaddeus revealed that the electorate needs only his or her National Identity Card after which the finger prints will be taken and other biographic data . A receipt will then be issued which will be used for the collection of the voters card.

Meanwhile the Divisional Branch Head of ELECAM for Mezam, Tala Michael Ndikum stated that after the official launching registration booths will open from Monday to Friday as between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and on Saturdays it will be from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and on Sundays when need arises.
