Gendarmerie increase controls during festivities

Their units criss-cross the main roads in order to raise awareness on respecting the highway code and suppress possible offences, if any.

At the Kom II post, near Obala in the Lékié, a jumbo carrying logs was stopped by warrant officer Chief Félix Mengada for over load o. While regulatory rules tolerates an over load of 30 cm maximum, the truck registered LT TR 703 AA, exceeded 50 cm. This therefore represents a danger for users travelling in the opposite direction.

Despite a long moment of supplications, he eventually paid a penalty of 25 000 F. Meanwhile, transit cars, administrative, military and private vehicles pass through controls led by major-general Simon Pierre Dagafounangsou, who inspect the inside of the vehicles with the aim of finding any suspected or dangerous objects.

Among the most frequent offences, the improper stowage of baggage, overloads, speeding and lack of safety belt are the most repressed. Friday and Saturday, nearly 200 offences were detected only around the Kom II post with nearly a million F collected for the benefit of the public coffers.

This control was valued by users and motorists themselves who find it beneficial on the eve of Christmas and New Year celebrations. "The work is well done. Although it takes us time, it's for our safety. So we can spend the holidays safely", noted Joseph Elomo, a passenger.
