GBHS Bonaberi: 700 more places for enhancing learning

The two-storey building constructed by Parent-Teachers’ Association has already decongested the school.

Learning in conducive conditions is the key to success. In some Government Secondary Schools, a classroom ought to take at most 60 students, but this is not often the case. Some classes are so overcrowded that teaching and learning are made difficult.

It is for this reason that the Parent-Teachers’ Association, PTA, of Government Bilingual High School, GBHS, Bonaberi, Douala, constructed a FCFA 100 million-worth structure to decongest the school. It comprises 12 sizeable classrooms and five offices. The two-storey building, which will be given finishing touches during the Summer holidays, is already occupied by some 700 students.

According to the Principal, Engal François, the two-year project by the PTA is praiseworthy. He said some overcrowded classes, including Form Five Arts, with over 160 students, have been split into two. The structure also has a special and secured room for safeguarding General Certificate of Education, GCE, material. Cassandra Dikoume, a Form Five Arts student and Ngo Elouga, a student in PA4 Espagnol, expressed joy that the nightmare of congestion where only those who sat in front of the class understood lessons was now over.
