Five die in serious road accident on Yaoundé – Douala highway

Less than a month after its official opening, the Medical and Surgical Emergencies Center in Yaoundé had its first victims of a grave accident on the Yaoundé – Douala highway, yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred after a collision between two vehicles at Mbankomo, a suburb of the city of Yaoundé.

"A Hiarce leaving Douala with passengers on board and a big truck carrier from Douala collided. Upon observation, truck driver who was overloading was the cause of the accident. Images are atrocious," said Nestor Dym, Sub-Prefect of the district of Mbankomo on CRTV Radio.

The driver of the tractor, who is now in police custody, was “intoxicated” says Police Commissioner Gilbert Menye Mbang, before calling for more vigilance in this Back to School period.
