Fire ravishes two shops in Marche Congo, Douala

Fire Fire

A fire outbreak at Marché Congo near a place called Makea, led to the ravaging of two electrical shops, yesterday, around two o'clock in the morning.

Despite the deployment of firefighters, they could not prevent these shops from being devoured by the flames.

"The fire fighters arrived around two o'clock in the morning but the fire was very intense. Unfortunately they could not save the two shops,” noted Aicha.

According to information gathered on the causes of the fire, it all started from an anarchic connection which resulted in a short - circuit. “The guard of the shops called me around 2 o'clock in the morning, saying that the power cable has sparked fire. Upon my arrival I saw the vivacity of fire despite the presence of the firefighters," Aicha said.

The unfortunate struggled to contain their emotions; "Leave me alone, it is starting life all over", declared a victim. One of the traders, Fambou Doriste, indicated that he suffered looting during the fire. "I was keeping my jewelry in one of the shops. At the time of the fire I rushed to save my merchandise but I found out that thieves had already broken the glass of my cabinet. They stole my goods valued at three million", he noted sadly.

The owner of one of the shops is not at rest, because the value of stocks consumed is valued at more than ten million FCfas. Since morning, two men tried to pick up the plate blackened by the flames and also the remains of goods reduced to ashes.

Marché Congo located on the side of the shopping centre has become noted for fire incidents. Traders no longer know what Saint to devote it to "this market is already becoming disturbing, every time fire. Every time, a cry of distress is raised before the city authorities,” murmured a trader.

“We have suffered too much already, it is necessary that the urban community helps us to better build this market. The fire incidents pushes us to wonder about the construction and haphazard connections of these business places located in the heart of the economic capital,” remarked François.
