Farmers warned against the misuse of Inputs

South West Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development, James Enang has warned farmers of his region to shun the habits of misappropriation of farm input from government and international donors.

Mr Enang issued the warning in Kumba recently while overseeing the handing over of equipment to the Konye Farmers Cooperative, KONAFCOOP, worth FCFA 10 Million.

The equipment is a donation from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA in collaboration with the Netherlands Development Organisation, SNV to step up cocoa income and sustain production through intensive farming and diversification.

The South West Delegate of Agriculture further cautioned all the beneficiaries of the need to invest the donations into profit making projects so to increase and improve the production of Cocoa in the Region.

On behalf of the Country Representative of SNV Cameroon, Charles Tah stated that the package given to the farmers included ten new motorcycles, ten humid metres and improved plantain seedlings and cassava cuttings.

Representing Hana Rachid of IITA Cameroon, Martin Yemefack elaborated that the project is under implementation in two main places across the country that is, Konye in the South West and Ayos in the Centre Region.

Edward Eyabu Elangwe of KONAFCOOP loaded the efforts of the donors while equally promising to invest in the resources in the domain of training the farmers in the modern systems of farming.

The Second Deputy Mayor of Konye Bau Akama Makia Ndedi used the platform to plead with the authorities concern to do something on the deplorable road network in the region.

It is to be noted that, the project has as goal to support government of Cameroon achieve new generation agriculture by 2015.
