Farmers receive piglets from Binguela School of Agriculture

The School of Agriculture in Binguela has donated piglets to farmers to help with the mass production of meat in Yaoundé.

Ecole Pratique d’Agriculture de Binguela (EPAB) in the district of Mbankomo and agro pastoral sector representatives signed ten partnership agreements in breeding pigs, broilers and eggs consumption on Friday.

Through these agreements, the EPAB will provide support and guidance to producers, companies and associations specialized in this field.

Genetic materials, including piglets were given to them as part of the ‘White Belt’ initiative for the mass production of pork around Yaoundé. In return, beneficiaries are to give the EPAB six piglets for redistribution to other applicants after their first yields. This is an initiative that has already been successful in the past.

Father Félix Désiré Amougou, the parish priest of St. Ambrose Mehandan successfully experimented with this project at the Melen and Ba'aba Mbende parishes. He received four piglets on Friday and intends to repeat the feat in his new parish.

"This is a major boost especially when you have already set up a reception infrastructure. A gift of this nature is like manner from heaven, of which we must take advantage”, he said.

During the ceremony, several young people from the Centre de Formation Professionnelle (CFPA) of EPAB received their end of certificates trades in pig farming among others.

With its incubation center and support to the agro-pastoral sector companies, project developers benefit from strengthening managerial skills in training, design and project maturation, development of the business plan, research funding and provision of skilled workforce.
