Far North: Electricity restored

Electricity Electricity

Electricity was finally restored at Moutourwa in Mayo-Kani for a week-long festival on Saturday, August 22, 2015.

The district capital was cut off from electricity since May 20.

Dozens of towns that were supplied from the high voltage in Moutourwa have also received valuable energy.

According to the assertions of Seini Abba Ousman, the regional delegate for Eneo Cameroon in the Far North, "mindful of the week, the Maga town in Mayo-Danay department will also be connected to electricity."

In this district, people have been languishing in the dark for almost two months; a situation that has marred the relationship between Abdoulaye Oumarou, the Sub-Prefect of Maga, and officials of Eneo.

In reality, since the rainy season, electricity in the Far North has been the victim of several power cuts. Due to a particularly fragile ecology, electric poles regularly fall after the storms. In the case of Bogo-Maga section, for instance, over a hundred power poles lie on the ground.

Technical teams have been mobilized and are working hard to restore the power grid in other localities like Pouss and Mourla. The teams are also doing construction works in Meri and Kaélé Pété, where the combined effects of storms and termites have led to the fall of tens of electric posts, thus the power interruption.

It was announced that work will be completed before the end of August.
