Fako SDO warns against “ghost workers”, clandestine institutions

Fako Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, Zang III, says he will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that he unveils all “ghost workers” and clandestine institutions in the education milieu, in the division.

Zang III, while chairing the Fako Secondary Education Functional Conference to launch the 2014/2015 school year on September 16, at the premises of Government High School Limbe, called on all stakeholders present not to be accomplices to teachers who refuse to teach, but are the first to collect salaries, and that all involved, will face disastrous consequences when caught.

The conference which was celebrated under the theme The School at the service of human development through quality education, brought together various stakeholders, including proprietor of colleges, principals of teacher training colleges, principals of high schools, principals of first cycle institutions, principals of mission schools and lay private institutions, PTA presidents, school management board presidents, coordinators of vice principals and senior discipline masters etc.

The Fako boss said there is need for accountability, vigilance etc towards assigned task and he explained that this year’s theme brings out the importance of the school to the development of talents for the success of the school, and reminded all stakeholders, that they have an enormous responsibility to instil knowledge and morals in youths, as any error will jeopardise the life of an individual.

Zang III called on the stakeholders to apply themselves to the rule in force, but also to remain human in dealing with students.“The school calendar must be strictly respected, ensure the school management is run in conformity with ministerial texts, and fight against corruption and other ills in the school environment, avoid delays, manage human resources objectively, observe punctuality, team spirit, respect for others and time management”.

The SDO also urged the stakeholders to sensitise students on the Ebola virus, cholera and HIV/AIDS, so that they will remain healthy and fit to study.

The principal of GHS Limbe, in her welcome address said as educational stakeholders, they need to carry the country forward by creating great minds.

According to the government delegate to the Limbe City Council, Motanga Andrew Monjimba, the council is very conscious of the very vital role secondary education plays in the society, and it has been lending material and financial support through scholarships, assistance to colleges and the putting in place of a bus service, and that the city of Limbe provides the necessary serene atmosphere and comfort for students to study effectively.

Fako divisional delegate for secondary education Ikundi Helen Njomo, said the conference aims at evaluating the 2013/2014 year, and to lay down directives in line with ministerial decisions for the 2014/2015 academic year and thanked all those who contributed to the successful holding of the conference.

The divisional delegate thanked government for all support but pleaded for more structures for successful learning.

Mrs Ikundi Helen, also appreciated all who contributed for the 2013 school year, however, she highlighted a number of ills which prevented the year from witnessing total success, like absenteeism, laxity, in adequate follow-up, over-crowded classes, low coverage of scheme of work etc.

During the ceremony, the delegate congratulated some schools for man-power development, handed certificates and letters of encouragementto schools which scored above 80% in the last public exams, certificates of excellence to schools which scored 100%,cash prizes to laureates who excelled in the various public exams and also the first 13 schools with the best results in the division, were recognised.

During the second phase of the ceremony, the stakeholders, after receiving health tips from the District Medical Officer, formed committees to evaluate the 2013/2014 school year, the teaching/learning process, the 2013/2014 result analysis, and strategies for the improvement of results and ended up with recommendations.
