Fake wires suspected to have triggered Douala fire

For those who follow our investigated documentaries, you should have come across 'web city', the documentary that analyzed most of the major fire disasters that have taken place in Douala.

This time we had to visit an electrical engineer on the spot for what may have possibly caused the recent city council fire.

There are many fake electrical fixtures and wires on the Cameroon market. Some of these electrical devices cannot carry the power of some equipment. There are even bulbs sold in Cameroon that can cause fire outbreak.

We were taken through a thermographic camera on how bulbs and wire gets heated up to 80 to 100 degrees centigrade. And due to thermal effect, they automatically burst into flames and are quickly conducted by the rubber conductor covering the wire.

Every cable has a fire rating that customers never check before buying. It is very dangerous and most of those products are imported from China.
